Grown in clay and limestone soils in the extension of limestone layers that form the bedrock of Saint-Éstephe, the 2010 Château Chantelys is truly a wine to behold. It is a deep, dark red at first sight, but glistens a beautiful bright crimson when held up to the light. Ripe red berry fruit, earth, and tobacco aromas rise from the glass. On the palate, it is a delicious combination of fresh red cherry and black currant blended with a fine minerality and a light touch of oak. The tannins are bold and lend great structure to the full body of the wine. The finish is sublime and lingers on the palate for minutes. Enjoy this with grilled steak, a hearty lamb shank, or beef stew.
